Rooted in John Pawson’s idea of “absolute clarity”, the Frame Collection for Nikari pares furniture back to what is necessary.

Furniture designed to last often begins with a clear idea, shaped by careful consideration of how a piece will be used, where it will sit and how it will endure over time. For renowned British architect and designer John Pawson, that idea is “absolute clarity”, an approach that has guided his work across architecture, interiors and objects for more than three decades.
“Whether at the scale of a monastery, a house, a saucepan or a ballet, everything is traceable back to a consistent set of preoccupations with mass, volume, surface, proportion, junction, geometry, repetition, light and ritual,” Pawson says. “In this way, even something as modest as a fork can become a vehicle for much broader ideas about how we live and what we value.”
The Frame Collection for Nikari joins Pawson’s considered approach to form with the Finnish maker’s longstanding history of traditional Nordic woodwork. Originally designed for Home Farm, the architect’s own family retreat in the Cotswolds, England, the series debuted with the Frame table in 2021 and was followed by the Frame Low table in 2024.
Part of Nikari’s Storia Collection, the Frame Collection was developed to mark the Finnish company’s 50th anniversary. Pictured in Phillipines by John Pawson.
The collaboration was brought to life in Fiskars Village, Finland, where Nikari has produced timber furniture since 1967. Crafted from sustainably sourced Northern European timber, and manufactured using renewable hydroelectric energy generated beside the workshop, the collection reflects a considered approach to both design and production.
In Australia, the series is available through K5 Furniture, where it joins a collection of international brands selected for how they approach design, materials and making. For founder Erna Walsh, Pawson and Nikari’s collaboration reflects the thinking that continues to guide K5’s approach to sourcing.
“The Frame Collection embodies the values we look for at K5: thoughtful design, exceptional craftsmanship and longevity,” she says. “John Pawson and Nikari have created pieces that feel both timeless and deeply relevant to the way we live today.”
