Adam Kane’s Definitive Design Products for 2025

As part of our ongoing Definitive Design Products series, Melbourne-based architect Adam Kane shares his 12 design picks for 2025—from furniture and lighting to fixtures and kitchen appliances.

Our ‘Definitive Design Products’ series was first featured inside est magazine issue 56: ‘Living Connection’.

01. Apparatus Arrow Pendant

Kane spotlights the Arrow pendant by Apparatus’ founder and artistic director, Gabriel Hendifar, “for its perfect balance of precision and elegance”. He continues, “Its geometric brass structure meets the softness of glowing glass orbs.”

02. Living Divani Extrasoft Sofa

“The Living Divani Extrasoft sofa [by Piero Lissoni] acts as a comfortable sculpture with incredible versatility and is suited to almost any setting,” Kane says. Comprising units in varying sizes, the sofa allows for limitless configuration possibilities.

03. Halcyon Lake Polaris

Favouring a monochromatic palette, Kane is particularly drawn to the Polaris rug from Australian-owned Halcyon Lake. Composed of felted pure New Zealand wool, “It brings a relaxed softness through texture and colour,” Kane says.

04. Articolo Slim Wall Sconce

Hand-crafted in Australia, the Articolo Slim wall sconce combines metalwork with a snow or clear glass shade. For Kane, “the sconce has a refined simplicity which glows without overpowering a space.”

05. Eveneer Raw Even Walnut

When it comes to veneer, Kane favours natural materials such as walnut. “A soft, desaturated natural walnut is always effortlessly beautiful,” he says. “Whatever its required purpose is, you can use it as a solid block or a veneer.”

06. Cassina Kangaroo Armchair

“The craftsmanship of Cassina’s Kangaroo chair [designed by Pierre Jeanneret] is effortlessly shown off in its classic, low-slung profile and detail,” Kane says. Featuring distinct Z-shaped sides, the chair is part of the Hommage à Pierre Jeanneret Collection.

07. Astra Walker Icon 2.0

The Australian-owned tapware manufacturer Astra Walker’s Icon 2.0 range is celebrated for its minimalist design and marine-grade stainless steel. According to Kane, “The range has clean lines, restrained details and flexible materials.”

08. Henry Timi HT112 Chair

Designed by Milan-based designer and artist Henry Timi for his Cerchia collection, the HT112 chair is “a long-time favourite” for Kane. “It’s a bold and beautiful chair that’s surprisingly comfortable,” he says. “I have it in my own home!”

09. Bankston x Edition Office Casts Collection

The Casts Collection by Melbourne-based hardware brand Bankson and architecture firm Edition Office draws inspiration from brutalist architecture. “The range balances a beautiful form with a tactile rawness, thanks to its sand-cast forming process,” Kane says.

10. La Marzocco Linea Mini

“The La Marzocco Linea Mini is a thing of beauty and an absolute essential in any home,” Kane says. Handmade in Florence, Italy since 1927, it features a dual-boiler system and a saturated group head, for precise temperature stability.

11. Wolf Contemporary M Series Single Oven

On ovens, Kane highlights American manufacturer Wolf, specifically their Contemporary M Series, as a standout. “The range can be integrated for concealment while still offering uncompromised functionality,” he says.

12. Sub-Zero Refrigerator Range

“Their functionality is unrivalled,” Kane says of American refrigerator brand Sub-Zero. “The products can be entirely integrated into cabinetry, and they offer pro models for those wanting to flex a little!”
