Situated in the lively heart of Kortrijk, in the Flemish province of West Flanders, this apartment was crafted by Belgian architects Decancq Vercruysse for a couple with a passion for art and design, who also happen to be some of lead architect Emiel Vercruysse’s closest friends.
The design centres on showcasing the client’s remarkable art collection while introducing fresh and inviting elements to enhance its allure. “The client wanted us to take into account the beautiful pieces they already owned. Each one needed a place within the home,” Vercruysse explains.
Each space is thoughtfully designed to display not only artwork but also cherished objects and books. Open cabinets and shelves replace bulky built-in closets, providing ample space to curate and exhibit these treasures. “This approach makes the spaces feel much more casual and welcoming, which is something we strive for in all of our projects,” Vercruysse says. The furniture itself serves as art, with iconic pieces like Børge Mogensen dining chairs, a Charlotte Perriand stool, and a Serge Mouille wall lamp elevating the overall design.
To keep the curated pieces at the forefront, Decancq Vercruysse selected a palette of muted, neutral tones that complement and enhance the collection. Warm grey lime walls provide a subtle backdrop, while dark oak floors and Carrara marble countertops infuse the space with elegance and sophistication. The result is a refined inner-city sanctuary where you can enjoy a rich blend of art and design.
