Yacht Tour | Interior by Infinite Design Studio

  • Docked on Sydney’s D’albora Marina, Infinite Design Studio’s latest project brings new meaning to the term ‘coastal design’.

Effortless sophistication is at the heart of Infinite Design Studio’s latest collaboration with Longreef Yachts. Having previously worked with them on an impressive 60-foot yacht, the Sydney-based design studio rose to the challenge of designing the interiors of a 90-foot floating home. After a recent visit on board to celebrate its completion, Infinite Design Studio principal Michelle Macarounas can vouch for its dynamic design – fit for both relaxation and entertaining.

The main space features a custom sofa, stools and dining table by Infinite Design Studio with Tom Dixon Plum accessories for entertaining. The Zuster Tribute Marble coffee table completes the sophisticated curation while Embellish chairs sit up at the dining table.

The kitchen features all-black cabinetry with a Miele Pureline Cleansteel oven.

With an impressive portfolio of residential and commercial spaces, Michelle describes this unique collaboration as a “dream job” for her and the Infinite Design Studio team. Without a specific personality in mind, the brief was to create a boutique-style interior with the ability to mould to those who live there. For this, Infinite Design Studio looked to the Athens Riviera in the 60s and 70s. With the grandeur of a 5-star hotel, the yacht’s design unfolds as four distinct entertaining areas, four large cabins with berths and a generous main bedroom and ensuite. The largest consideration was to maximise each space, with every corner of the yacht featuring storage systems and multipurpose designs.

This project had no shortage of challenges, from communication gaps to delivery issues, alongside the already trivial planning process of designing a boat. Infinite Design Studio collaborated with international and national teams to create the structure, ensuring that the interior’s functionality met specific guidelines. Choosing materials was more restrictive than the typical interior design project, considering weight, certification and performance, guided by a streamlined design approach.

The carpet indoors is from Fyber’s Envy collection.

Timber chevron flooring meets black laminate in the kitchen, living and dining area, while custom leather details are dotted throughout. Michelle’s favourite element of the harbour-top home is the spacious main bedroom, designed with full-sized, panoramic windows that hero the view of the glimmering water below.

Outside, there are multiple living spaces – from fabric upholstered seating to lounge in the sun to dining nooks for coming together. An oversized flybridge affords extensive views of the harbour.

As the “highlight of her career”, Michelle’s heart and soul shine through the design of the Longreef 90SX Yacht. This floating home truly proves that with an eye for design and the ability to navigate challenges at every stage, one can create luxury anywhere.

“Despite a painfully complicated delivery due to pandemic issues, the wonderful international team of boat building, design and furnishings specialists came together to produce a unique marine living, playing and entertaining space.”
