A Life of Colour and Craft | Vale Rosita Missoni

Renowned for the instantly recognisable zig-zag print, Rosita Missoni remained true to the artisanal ethos of the brand, even as the world sat up and took notice.

Rosita Missoni’s name is synonymous with a bold celebration of pattern, colour and texture. Rosita co-founded the iconic Italian fashion house Missoni as a knitwear brand in 1953 alongside her husband, Ottavio. From the get-go, her vision was always steadfast: to create pieces that transcend trends, embracing a philosophy of craftsmanship. Rosita’s love affair with knitted artistry has shaped not just fashion but an entire ethos of design that continues to inspire.

“I remember meeting Rosita at Maison&Objet in 2018, she just had such a wonderful presence. She immediately connected about visiting Australia and spoke fondly about her time here. Hearing her story and seeing her dedication to quality and craft was so inspiring. Her passion established a global presence,” muses est living publisher Miffy Coady.

While Missoni is renowned for its zig-zag patterns and brave combinations of kaleidoscopic hues, the brand’s influence extends far beyond the runway. With an eye for design, Rosita drew on a lifetime of collecting and home decoration, eventually evolving the fashion house into the world of interiors with the launch of Missoni Home in 1983. The transition was natural, with the products embodying the same vibrant, tactile sensibility that made the fashion label a global phenomenon. From textured throws and statement cushions to luxurious rugs and small upholstered furniture, Missoni Home has redefined the intersection of fashion and décor.

Rosita’s unwavering dedication to the artisanal craft of knitted textiles has ensured the brand’s enduring relevance. Her work is a celebration of tradition and modernity. Rosita has woven an extraordinary legacy that is now an indelible piece of Italian heritage.
