This solid brick, architecturally designed 70’s treasure in Melbourne was a gift to work with according to designer Kestie Lane, one half of Melbourne based design firm, Studio You Me. Together with partner Hana Hakim, Kestie explains because the original home was designed with such integrity in the first place with great orientation, high-pitched ceilings and stream-lined joinery, Studio You Me was able work with the great original features to bring it up to date.
Custom finishes and joinery elements designed to withstand the demands of a young family were created using select grade American Oak veneer in a custom black stain, and 3mm expressed shadow-line detail to create the narrative of the house throughout. A mix of metal and linen and accent colours of green and orange give life and movement to the predominantly black and white scheme of dark cabinetry, Danish white limed floors and white walls.
Having met as colleagues at another design firm many years ago, Kestie and Hana instantly became friends with a mutual respect for each other’s unique strengths and individual style. The pair’s interest in design extends way beyond the interior projects for which they are commissioned and into the areas of graphic, event, urban, furniture and product design, forming more of an holistic practice rather than a purely interior design firm.
Preferring custom-crafted design over something mass produced, both Kestie and Hana are committed to the cause of building for longevity, creating spaces that excite the senses and comfort the soul.
