With an expert eye for unearthing one-of-a-kind treasures and a seemingly effortless knack for pulling them into the perfect collection, Sue Carroll from Montreaux can always be relied upon to create spaces that are both elegant yet understated. But when she shared her latest project with us, the concept space STORIE in South Melbourne, it wasn’t just the carefully curated pieces that caught out attention but what a clever concept this space is. Encompassing a boutique accommodation offering and a studio available for hire (not to mention serving as a backdrop for the gorgeous collection of objects and furnishings curated by Sue), STORIE feels like a long overdue concept, the type of project you can’t believe didn’t already exist.
Created in line with a philosophy of simple, understated aesthetics, the space calls out to be shared with others – that is, if you’re willing to let others in on the secret. Located in the heart of South Melbourne, the team behind STORIE have respectfully restored and transformed this classic Victorian terrace, creating a series of adaptive spaces that thoughtfully consider all elements. Stripped-back and light-filled rooms are the canvas for the interiors, with unique pieces given space to breathe in their carefully-curated positions. Many of these pieces will be made available for purchase on the STORIE website and at select openings throughout the year, making the space every-changing… and ripe for multiple visits!
The space can accommodate up to six people, including a fully-equipped kitchen and laundry as well as living spaces and courtyard, while the studio space can be hired as a seperate booking or in addition to the accommodation concept. Located in the heart of South Melbourne, guests will have plenty of coffee, dining and restaurant spots at their doorstep – or can hop on a tram to enjoy Melbourne’s CBD close by.
