Continuing our Definitive Design Products series for 2025, SJB director Adam Haddow shares his 12 top picks, from furniture and lighting to materials, bathroom fixtures and kitchen appliances.
Our ‘Definitive Design Products’ series was first featured inside est magazine issue 56: ‘Living Connection’.
01. B&B Italia Up Series 50 Chair
“I love the sculptural form of the B&B Italia Up Series 50 chair by [Italian architect and designer] Gaetano Pesce,” Haddow says. Originally designed in 1969, Haddow is “a sucker for the original stripped fabric,” he says. “Honestly, it’s one of the most favourite things that I own!”
02. Artek Stool 60
Manufactured in 42 production steps at the A-Factory in Turku, Finland, the Artek Stool 60 was designed by Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto. “It’s both my favourite side table and stool,” Haddow says. “We have a small house, so flexibility is key.”
03. Supertuft Escape Velour – Lotti
Haddow favours locally made pieces, including Australian Supertuft’s Escape Velour rug collection. “I can’t go past them,” Haddow says. “I’ve been using them for more than 25 years, and they’ve never let me down. I also love that the carpets are made in Melbourne from 100% natural New Zealand wool.”
04. B&B Italia Tufty-Time Sofa
The Tufty-Time sofa, designed by Italian furniture designer Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia, is modular, offering versatile composition options. “I love that the covers are removable, so you can seasonally change up a room,” Haddow says. “You can also mix and match the fabrics, and it still reads as a singular object.”
05. Euro Marble Stone Range
When it comes to stone, Haddow prefers Euro Marble. The Australian-owned company supplies materials from classic European countries such as Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal. “The team sources remarkable products, and their manufacturing is second to none!”
06. RBW Crisp Sconce
The Crisp sconce from New York-based lighting brand RBW features a grooved face, reminiscent of the ruffles on a potato chip. For Haddow, “it gives off great light and has enough interest without being overwhelming”.

07. Kaldewei Bathtub Range
German bathroom brand Kaldewei is celebrated for its modern silhouettes, which suit a wide range of interiors. According to Haddow, “They just have excellent baths. Each project requires its own strategy, so we regularly invest in Kaldewei.”
08. Nau Molloy Chair
The Nau Molloy chair, designed by Sydney-based furniture designer Adam Goodrum, is part of a set inspired by the Molloy River in Western Australia. “I love its form and the quality of materials,” Haddow says. “Adam is a complete genius!”
09. Flos Toio
The Flos Toio, designed in 1962 by Italian designer brothers Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, features a formed-steel base available in white, black or red. “It’s a classic,” Haddow says. “I love its eclectic ‘reused’ aesthetic.”
10. Artek Black Pendant Light A110
“I can’t go past a pendant light [by Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto],” Haddow says. Embodying a signature streamlined aesthetic with a focus on atmospheric and therapeutic light, Aalto’s designs “are classic and incredibly elegant”.
11. V-Zug Oven Range
When asked about his choice of oven manufacturer, Haddow said, “V-Zug, I just love them!” Renowned for their premium Swiss engineering, their oven ranges cater to both beginners and advanced cooks. In Haddow’s household, “My husband is the cook and he swears by them—enough said!”
12. Liebherr Refrigerator Range
“I love a Liebherr fridge,” Haddow says. “They integrate perfectly and I honestly specify them in 80 per cent of our projects.” Combining the best of German and Swiss design and engineering, Liebherr refrigerators are celebrated for their superior food preservation and durability.
