Smac Studio is an award-winning Sydney-based interior architecture and design practice led by Shona McElroy. The studio offers a comprehensive service from concept to completion.
Smac Studio’s design approach begins with hand-drawn concepts, developed into 3D walkthroughs that allow clients to experience a space before it is built. The studio’s work is characterised by an editorial, sensory sensibility, favouring poetic contrast and grounded materiality over trend-led decoration.
Underpinning every project is a belief that interiors should evoke genuine feeling rather than follow convention, whether within a private home or a commercial fitout. This philosophy, paired with technical expertise in structural planning and construction oversight, has established Smac Studio as a practice known for interiors that are both striking and deeply livable.
Smac Studio is accredited by the Design Institute of Australia.

Shona McElroy brings a rare combination of warmth, clarity and creative conviction to Smac Studio. Personable and deeply articulate, she has an exceptional ability to communicate design intent through a strong visual language, making complex ideas feel immediate and engaging. The studio’s use of VR and 3D project reviews is particularly compelling, offering clients an immersive understanding of space before it is built. In Australia, that combination of design intelligence, technological fluency and personal connection feels genuinely one of a kind. – Miffy Coady, est living publisher
