Nickolas Gurtler Office is a Melbourne-based interior design and decoration practice founded in 2015, working across residential, retail, workplace, health, beauty and wellness sectors. The studio has developed particular expertise in high-end residential interiors, alongside a distinct decoration practice that often sees it collaborate with esteemed architects to complete and enrich their architectural vision through furniture, art, materiality, colour and detail. Its work in women’s health has also informed an approach to interiors that considers experience, dignity and care.

The studio refers to its approach as Interior Alchemy, a design language built through sculptural form, distinctive material combinations and precise spatial composition, balancing exuberance with restraint. Each project is highly considered and meticulously edited, shaped through a close reading of context, purpose and the people who will inhabit it.

Influences are often drawn from unlikely sources, bringing together the familiar and the unexpected to create spaces rich in meaning, relevance and longevity. Strong attention is given to the relationship between elements, the rhythm between spaces and the way an interior is encountered over time. Nothing is arbitrary; each decision works to create interiors that are layered, atmospheric and deeply human.
