KSLD is an award-winning landscape design practice, working on residential projects across Melbourne and in regional and coastal settings. The site and aspect, architecture and client preferences all influence the design work, and their expertise in both design and horticulture ensures a keen focus on spatial arrangement and addressing the hard landscape elements, as well as the importance of planting design.
To quote a source of inspiration, the mid-20th century American landscape architect Thomas Church, “Gardens are for people” and this is a guiding principle, creating landscapes that are not just good to look at, but are pleasurable and inviting to be in, with a strong sense of place.
In collaborating with leading architects, designers and builders, this ensures that the landscape is a key element in the design process, rather than the last thing on the agenda.

There is a quiet generosity to Kate Seddon’s landscapes that reflects the person behind them. Thoughtful, deeply knowledgeable and instinctively connected to place, Kate creates gardens that feel as though they have always belonged. Her work at Hawthorn House beautifully demonstrates this approach, where soft, layered planting brings warmth, texture and calm to the architecture, inviting nature into everyday life. It is this rare combination of horticultural expertise, restraint and genuine empathy that continues to distinguish Kate as one of Australia’s most considered landscape designers.
