Open House | Copperstone by the Range Estates

Nestled in the rolling hills of Bangalow’s hinterland in New South Wales, Copperstone is the latest exclusive property from Emma and Tom Lane, co-founders of The Range Estates.

Renowned for creating immersive, bucolic experiences, the Lanes have transformed a former biodynamic stone-fruit farm into a sun-drenched retreat that invites guests to embrace the art of slow living.

Spanning forty-eight acres of lush countryside, Copperstone stands in a league of its own. The estate features a spacious five-bedroom homestead, a two-bedroom manager’s cottage, and an array of facilities designed for leisure and relaxation. Every detail has been thoughtfully crafted with purpose and elegance; from the pool house and wellness retreat—with a steam room and infrared sauna—to the tennis court, horse stables, and dressage arena. Equally enchanting are the walled garden and nearby sandy beach, all enclosed within the estate’s custom rail-and-post fencing that frames the property’s picturesque landscape.

At the heart of Copperstone’s design narrative, in conjunction with Sam Ray of Story Design Collective, inspiration was drawn from the Lanes’ travels through the Mediterranean. The architecture blends the enduring allure of Spanish haciendas with the weathered appeal of Australian homesteads, creating a space that feels unique, worldly, and deeply connected to its surroundings. “We wanted it to be an Australian property, but also evoke the feeling of an Argentinian horse stud, with a European influence—something a little Tuscan and Spanish,” says Emma Lane.

Inside, the interiors beautifully reflect this blend of heritage and modernity. A warm palette of terracotta, ochre, rose, ecru, and rich browns effortlessly pairs with rustic textures and thoughtfully curated furnishings, creating a layered atmosphere of understated luxury. The balance between old-world charm and contemporary elegance is striking. Rough-sawn hardwoods and recycled masonry define the outdoor spaces, while exposed timber beams, Mineral Fox natural Ibiza plaster walls, oxidised copper benchtops, Armadillo rugs, and worn leather elements create a refined, artisanal feel. Swathes of pink travertine enhance the interiors, adding quiet sophistication and depth to the design. Vintage pieces sit comfortably alongside contemporary highlights from Baxter and Vox Populi.

Emma Lane’s refined design sensibility is evident in the main living room, where a sunken Italian velvet sofa curves around the fire, or in the primary suite, where a fireplace and armchair sit beside an opulent ensuite adorned in pink travertine tiles. Each of the homestead’s five bedrooms is generously proportioned, with ensuite bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes, and direct access to the expansive deck that wraps around the main house. “The orientation means the house gets sun through every part of the day,” Lane says. “The westerly sunsets are amazing.”

Beyond its aesthetic allure, Copperstone champions environmental stewardship. The estate’s rich soil supports a native rainforest planting program aimed at protecting Byron Creek and fostering biodiversity. This commitment to regeneration underscores the Lanes’ dedication to preserving the land’s natural beauty.

Copperstone offers the perfect setting for connection and reflection. Whether wandering through its sweeping lawns, traversing the riding trails, or pausing by serene waterways, guests are invited to immerse themselves in nature—and in meaningful moments with one another. “It’s a place where time slows, offering tranquility and inspiration, enveloped by a landscape of unmatched beauty, charm, and golden sunsets,” says Lane. Ultimately, Copperstone is a testament to the Lanes’ unwavering commitment to regeneration, restoration, and their love for blending European charm with Australian landscapes.
