O.P. Residence by Bruns Architecture and Lindsay Pauly

  • Bruns Architecture collaborate with Lindsay Pauly to bring simplistic harmony to a family holiday home overlooking Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin.

Situated in a family compound of five neighbouring properties, Bruns Architecture and interior designer Lindsay Pauly designed two connecting A-frame structures for a young Brooklyn family’s retreat. Through a restrained colour palette and soft finishes, Bruns Architecture and Lindsay Pauly have created a minimal yet approachable family lake house.

The Normann Copenhagen White Bell Pendant hangs above the island bench.

With the design objective of maximising connections to the outdoors, the unique home features two gabled buildings held by a single-storey structure, separating the entertaining space from the private bedroom wing. The facade of the home is entirely clad in black tiles recycled from rubber tires, juxtaposed with a large white plastered chimney, reflecting the client’s admiration for monochrome interiors.

Inside, expansive glazed windows allow for an abundance of natural light, playing softly off the matt plaster walls; its imperfections evident in the light. Integrated appliances and washed timber cabinetry set the tone for the spacious kitchen, complete with a breakfast bar for the whole family to enjoy.

Stained wide oak floorboards are used throughout the home, married with black steel accents in the staircase and tapware fixtures.

The dining room features the J104 Chair for HAY.

Reclaimed timber beams run along the ceiling of various rooms of the home, adding depth to the unpretentious space. The layering of black, white and grey interior finishes allows for an elegant sense of drama. Raw and honest, the neutral colour palette flows into the bedrooms, where relaxed white bedlinen allows the lakefront view to steal focus.

Everything brought into the O.P Residence has been considered for its beauty and functionality. Through the use of reclaimed materials and a respectful colour palette, Bruns Architecture and Lindsay Pauly have designed a functional family retreat that celebrates its picturesque surrounds.

Crisp white linen in the bedroom allows the lakefront view to steal focus.

The cosy children’s bedroom remains minimal through white walls and concealed storage.

The facade of the home is clad entirely in black tiles.
