Nine to Know | Sink-in Sofas

  • In this Nine to Know, we explore a collection of sculptural sofas designed to sink into.

When we envisage a comfortable home, we often picture how we would like to spend the tail-end of the day. Naturally, the sofa is where we find ourselves taking some unscheduled, well-earned downtime, so we’ve combed the globe for some of the best-designed sofas for lounging.

This feature originally appeared in est Magazine issue #45.

    Cassina Soriana Sofa

When husband and wife duo Afra and Tobia Scarpa did the first sketches of the Soriana sofa for Cassina, they never anticipated it to become the icon it is today. Its construction and materials have since been redeveloped to reduce its environmental impact, but this has only generated a higher level of comfort.

    Arflex Marenco 2018 Sofa

The sink-ability, so to speak, of the Arflex Marenco 2018 sofa is marked right away by its seat and armrests, which claim their inflated appearance from Mario Marenco’s revolutionary cushion design.

    Jamb Upton Sofa

The Jam Upton sofa has its origins in 19th-century English countryside homes and is favoured for its sculptural camel-shaped back and generous seat depth.

    Meridiani Neuman Sofa

Designed by Meridiani’s creative director and designer Andrea Parisio, the Neuman sofa’s timeless shape and tailoring make it a natural addition to this Nine to Know.

    Studio Oliver Gustav New Couch

Designed by Copenhagen-based Studio Oliver Gustav, the New couch is made to order from either linen or hemp; two exceptionally soft materials that convey the studio’s focus on honest simplicity and timeless design.
