At the centre of a living room, an evocative coffee table is sure to make an impact. Inspiring this edit, we uncover a unique take on colour, form and texture through nine playful coffee tables; reminding us how sophistication and personality can run parallel within the home.

This feature originally appeared in est Magazine issue #45.

The Pulpo Tavolino coffee table embodies a playful nature in its shape and colour. This vibrant table features lacquered aluminium or powder coated waves and a tinted glass top.

Designer Charlotte Kingsnorth replicates the unique colours of lichen fungus with phosphor bronze. The Future Perfect Small Lichen table features a bronze tabletop and a patinaed cylindrical base in a striking blue, orange and pink palette.

The Cassina Accordio low table was created retrospectively as a result of Charlotte Perriand’s exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1985.

The Martinelli Luce Metafora table is an iconic 1970s design by Lella and Massimo Vignelli that explores form and geometry. In this striking assembly, a glass pane sits atop four distinct shapes of Carrara marble, each symbolic of a time or element of human history.

The Baxter Verre Particulier table by Milan-based design agency Studiopepe plays with the idea of fused glass resting on toppled marble posts.
