As one half of Meme Design, the ever vivacious designer, Megan Hounslow joins forces with creative partner and architect Melanie Beynon to form a dynamic design studio that delivers innovative, timeless architecture, interior design and installations for a myriad of clients. This particular project in Prahran saw the Meme Design team refurbish a small Edwardian home following the design principles of light and shade thanks to a strict adherence of a monochromatic colour pallet.
Following suit of a typical Edwardian floorpan that sees bedrooms at the front and living out the back, Meme Design oversaw a somewhat challenging brief that required the absolute maximum space to be drawn out of an extremely small footprint. Allowing for relatively compact bedrooms, the designers were charged with the task of designing a home that felt big on space and comfort.
The open plan kitchen has been designed to conceal as much clutter as possible while also acting as functioning kitchen, dining space and relaxed living area. Designed as a truly multi-purpose room, here each and every cupboard and drawer, nook and cranny have been considered and contemplated in order to ensure optimum use of space with the kitchen joinery containing a hot desk area and appliance niche, a concealed fridge and dishwasher to hide all signs of any ‘back of house’ functions.
