Located on a quiet hillside, the Main Ridge farmhouse is surrounded by Victoria’s rolling green countryside and lush vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula. The team at Griffiths Design Studio were appointed the task of creating a casual but sophisticated modern home that reflected elements of the surrounding rural environment.
While the home was well-constructed and designed, some elements were in need of a serious overhaul. The existing brown carpet clashed with the chosen grey palette and was replaced with a luxurious soft knotted wool carpet in charcoal. Once smothered with broad beige and brown horizontal stripes, the hallway has had a Kardashian-like change of face with the newly rendered walls boasting a hand-rubbed, ultra-fine deep grey patina.
Replacing the old polished timber floors with new driftwood French Oak timber boards has created a wonderfully rustic and intimate setting reflective of the homes country setting. Timber panelled walls and white slatted ceilings effectively add to the sense of light and space in the homes new open plan design.
Beautiful textiles combine with natural stone and leathers to create a muted palette for an effortless, understated aesthetic. The sense of connection to the outdoors is enhanced through floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows and open-plan living, which was a key part of the client brief.
The result is an uncluttered and liveable interior with efficient spaces that offer visual continuity with nature. The Main Ridge Farmhouse strikes a balance between traditional farmhouses of the past and clean modern lines of the present.
