Langdon House

  • Renovating the kitchen and bathroom of this terrace house in South Yarra, Melbourne, proved to be a three way collaborative process between the home owner, interior designer Sarah Trotter of Hearth Studio and the in-house design team at Rogerseller. In choosing a Valcucine kitchen for the renovation of the terrace house, Rebekah Gibbons from Rogerseller was able to share her specialist kitchen design knowledge in order to ensure a flawless design, delivery and installation.

The most important element of the design brief for the newly installed kitchen was to create a comfortable place for the home owners to cook while also allowing enough space for everyone to gather here and share in the cooking process as much as the food. Wanting to create a causal eating area in a relatively narrow room with a formal fire place to also consider, the collaborative efforts of the Rogerseller design team and Hearth Studio ensured space was cleverly maximised thanks to the use of a Valcucine kitchen and a two sided joinery solution that hosts the fridge, pantry, linen and broom cupboard. An Elm veneer was chosen for the Valcucine doors and drawers, contrasting the benchtop and splashback in matt blackboard glass.

“We worked closely with the team at Rogerseller” explains designer Sarah Trotter. “I provided an ideal layout and position for the kitchen and they provided shop drawings for us to approve with a really tight turnaround working with the Valcucine modules. We then matched the finishes with our other custom cabinetry so it would all tie together.”

For the bathroom, black Mare tapware and shower head by Fantini have been specified along with Zero Monobloc toilets by Catalano, a Vitra Memoria basin and Rogerseller Strap robe hooks. In working closely with the client, a landscape designer, designer Sarah Trotter chose a restrained palette in order to accentuate the grand home’s original details and lofty ceilings. The end result is a terrace home that is both restrained and refined with a colour palette influenced by the natural landscape of ivy clad walls, the sky and views to the garden.
