Currently leading a dynamic team of young designers based in the KPDO office in inner-city Melbourne, interior designer Kerry Phelan has earned a reputation as one of the country’s most celebrated designers. Taking inspiration from the fields of fashion, the performing and visual arts, and as a frequent visitor to international art fairs, Phelan’s projects exude a balance of individuality with sophistication, fusing traditional style with a modern aesthetic.
“Colour for me usually involves texture, currently I’m thinking (and playing) with yellow plush velvets, ambers and rough black timbers…” KERRY PHELAN
My favourite runway show was Louis Vuitton A/W 2015 A completely new direction for Nicholas Ghesquière…no hang on… perhaps Chloe for boho beautifulness… but wait… what about the new Gucci A/W runaway, so mad!
Our next holiday hideaway I’m planning is Seven Rooms Villadorata in Sicily, it’s on my vast list of wonderful places to visit.
My gorgeous doggie Loulou – a great colour palette in herself.
I’m a total fan of all things neon and fluorescent. Iván Navarro’s extraordinarily seductive mirror neon works at Art Basel HK.
I’m listening to La Femme (Sur la Planche), French electronica pop. Also the Allah Las from California for a summer chillout pick-me-up.
Bar Di Stasio in St Kilda.
Claude Lalanne – I first noticed her Ginko Series a few years ago in the Dior flagship store in Hong Kong. Her delicate metal sculptures are a combination of furniture and art. Astonishingly (but not surprisingly) she creates jewellery as well.
Hotel Costes candles and room scents are my favourite hands down.
