The Hall 20 kitchen features a kitchen island in Dekton ‘Zenith’, benchtops, splashback and rangehood in Euromarble Calacatta Vagli Oro marble, and integrated Gaggenau appliances, including the 200 Series oven and combi-steam oven in anthracite, and the Varia 400 series gas, gas wok and Teppan Yaki cooktops. A sculpture by Humble Matter from Curatorial & Co. rests atop the bench, along with a plate and bowl from Ondene.

As an extension of the original 1920s post office in Bondi Beach, New South Wales, Hall 20 by Smart Design Studio emerges as a collection of boutique apartments marked by sophisticated, high-quality design elements.

Of the 10 apartments housed within the building, half embrace a dark colour scheme while the remaining half embrace a light colour scheme, with the intention being to offer variety for purchasers. Both approaches pursue a timeless, classic aesthetic, characterised by finely-detailed and understated interiors that harmonise with the much-loved heritage architecture.

As part of our ‘Kitchen Closeup’ series, we’re honing in on the light-scheme Hall 20 kitchen, where Smart Design Studio have paired a sleek white island bench and marble benchtops with dark appliances from Gaggenau. “The kitchen design has a striking, monolithic quality that is theatrical yet unimposing,”  Smart Design Studio associate and team leader Stefanie Taylor says. “Our focus was on elegant material selection, modern detailing, and seamlessly integrated design-forward kitchen appliances,” she adds.

The Gaggenau appliances beautifully contrast with the surrounding marble, adding a point of visual interest in the kitchen.

The kitchen is located in the open-plan living space, where Smart Design Studio have married clean white walls, ceilings, and doors with Crema Valencia stone flooring. The result is a ‘blank canvas’ for future owners to infuse their personality into and tailor to suit their lifestyle and needs. The kitchen, being at the centre of the living spaces, embodies this design ethos with its paired-down trifecta of materials.

While the kitchen island is clad in Dekton ‘Zenith’, the benchtops, splashback and rangehood behind it are set in Euromarble Calacatta Vaglu Oro marble, imparting a sense of opulence to the space. The marble beautifully contrasts with the anthracite glass finish of the Gaggenau 200 Series oven and combi-steam oven, as well as the Vario 400 series gas, gas wok, and Teppan Yaki cooktops, with the controls set into the front facade of the bench for an elevated cooking experience.

“With all other appliances hidden from view within the joinery elements, the minimalist dark Gaggenau appliances are intentionally left on display to provide a point of visual interest,” Stefanie says. “Their brushed stainless-steel details echo the kitchen’s subtle forms and imbued rich tactility,” she adds.

Hall 20, with its meticulously crafted kitchen, invites residents to explore their own story within its refined design.

“Our focus was on elegant material selection, modern detailing and seamlessly integrated design-forward kitchen appliances."
