Italian design brand Tacchini and London-based designer Faye Toogood reveal their debut collection of soft, sensual furniture and lighting.
Produced in partnership with Stylecraft
Since 1967, Italian design brand Tacchini has pursued objects that tell a human-centric story: of the designer, the maker and, in turn, the owner. The family-run brand is known for reviving the classic designs of the maestri or ‘masters’ such as Mario Bellini and Tobia Scarpa in a modern-day context. At the same time, Tacchini work closely with contemporary designers who are described as ‘key players’ in narrating unique stories for the brand.
One such designer is Faye Toogood, who released her first collection, Cosmic for Tacchini, during Milan Design Week and Salone del Mobile. Milano 2024. The ‘non-conformist’ designer is recognised for her work across interiors, products, and fashion, influenced by the natural landscape and her preoccupation with materiality.

The Solar sofa
Pillowy forms and organic shapes are a definitive thread through Toogood and Tacchini’s newly released Cosmic collection. “I wanted to challenge myself to create pieces that have sculptural shape but also softness,” Toogood says. The headline act for the collection is the Solar sofa, also available as a daybed, designed to resemble a stack of pillows with an ‘almost-sagging squishiness, ’ Toogood adds. The Solar sofa reveals Tacchini’s trademark upholstery with a fabric that intentionally crinkles.
The quilted Lunar pendants further explore the ‘crumpled’ design language. “The lights are covered in a paper fabric that you can scrunch to change the shape, with a beautiful diffused glow at the centre like an egg yolk,” Toogood says. In a nod to the material, the lights are available in paper sizes ‘A2, A1 and A0’, while the Stellar mirror appears to be swallowed by a cushion with a puffy, upholstered frame.
The Orbit coffee table and desk highlight the series’ irregular shapes and the tactility inherent in Toogood’s designs. Drawing inspiration from a pebble, the tables combine lacquer with a hide inlay and wooden legs upholstered in hide, named for how light wraps around the tables’ surface. The Astral steel cabinet is designed to ‘trick the eye’ as if it has no straight lines in a playful oval shape with shelving through the middle. “I try to put as much of myself and my energy into the objects,” Toogood reflects. “My process is tactile and emotional. I don’t connect with design done at a distance. These biomorphic shapes are not created on a computer; they are found by hand.”
