Exclusive to Australian retailer Space, British designer Lee Broom’s latest lighting collection; Alchemist, artfully balances sculptural metal forms with radiant illumination, creating a captivating interplay of light and material.
Drawing inspiration from the ancient practice of alchemy—the transformation of base metals into noble objects—multidisciplinary designer Broom infuses each of his Alchemist lighting objects with a sense of both physical and metaphysical wonder. Influenced by Paulo Coelho’s novel The Alchemist, Broom has taken inspiration from the mystical aspects of alchemy, weaving in themes of astrology, mythology, and folklore into his latest lighting range.
The new collection is thoughtfully divided into four distinct ranges: Mythos, King, Solstice, and Gemini, each offering a unique perspective on the concept of transformation. The range features pendant lights, chandeliers, and wall sconces, all meticulously crafted using traditional brass welding techniques. This foundation in brass is elegantly juxtaposed with elements of glass, acrylic, and leather, creating a harmonious blend of materials that elevates the collection.
True to the Lee Broom ethos, every piece in the Alchemist collection is designed and produced in-house at his workshop and studio in London. The range not only reflects Broom’s innovative approach to design but also embodies a deep respect for craftsmanship, with each fixture emerging as a testament to the transformative power of light and material.
