Inspired by Fiona Lynch walking the Larapinta Trail, the Desert Field collection translates desert light and colour into a series of woven throws.
Developed in collaboration with Australia’s oldest operating textile mill, Waverley Mills, Desert Field is a collection of woven blankets informed by time spent moving through central Australia. In 2023, Melbourne-based interior designer Fiona Lynch travelled along the Larapinta Trail in Alice Springs, where shifting desert conditions, long horizons and abrupt changes in light informed her response to colour and tone.
That experience became the foundation for four palettes: Ormiston, Simpson, Sonder and Standley. Each traces a different moment across the desert day, from the clarity of early light to the muted density of dusk.
Each piece is produced at the mill in Tasmania using fine merino wool, selected for its durability, softness and familiarity to Lynch, whose family has a background in merino farming. Waverley Mills’ long-standing textile processes allow for depth and precision in colour application, where subtle shifts register through construction rather than surface treatment.
