For our Definitive Design series, Cassie James-Herrick, founder of interior design practice CJH Studio, introduces her 12 products for 2025, spanning furniture, lighting, materials, fixtures and kitchen appliances.
Our ‘Definitive Design Products’ series was first featured inside est magazine issue 56: ‘Living Connection’.
01. Molteni&C Monk Chair
Designed in the 1970s by husband-and-wife Italian design duo Afra and Tobia Scarpa, the Molteni&C Monk Chair is defined by its angular timber frame and upholstered seat — a “restrained and classic design”, James-Herrick says.
02. B&B Italia Le Bambole ’07 Sofa
“It seems to work in many varied interiors,” James-Herrick says of the B&B Italia Le Bambole ’07 sofa by Italian architect Mario Bellini. With no supporting structure, it embodies comfort — “sculptural, timeless, unique and comfortable to boot.”
03. PP Møbler Flag Halyard Chair
Danish designer Hans J. Wegner’s PP Møbler Flag Halyard Chair combines a stainless steel frame, 240 metres of flag line and long-haired sheepskin. “I adore it for its relaxed nature and texture,” James-Herrick says. “It’s also an investment piece for further generations.”

04. Matter Made Puffball Table Lamp
British artist Faye Toogood’s Puffball table lamp for Matter Made catches the eye with its “bold yet simple design and interesting materiality”, James-Herrick says. Crafted from raw fibreglass, it takes inspiration from the rounded caps and stalks of wild mushrooms and toadstools.
05. Bankston x Edition Office Casts Collection
The Casts Collection, from Melbourne-based hardware brand Bankson and architecture firm Edition Office, nods to brutalist architecture with its monolithic forms. James-Herrick admires it for its “robust, minimal design”, while its flush-to-surface construction adds a practical edge.
06. Faye Toogood Cobble Side Table
Each Cobble side table by British designer Faye Toogood is hand-sculpted from high-gloss ceramic, its subtle asymmetries giving it a pebble-like presence. “I enjoy it for its unique style and finish,” James-Herrick says, with the two sizes designed to sit beautifully together.

07. Brodware Manhattan Range
James-Herrick highlights the Brodware Manhattan range from the Australian-owned fixtures company. “It’s the range that straddles both contemporary- and traditional-style homes perfectly,” she says, with finishes in chrome, polished brass and Nero offering options for every interior.
08. CDK Stone Silver Travertine
For marble, James-Herrick recommends Australian-owned CDK Stone silver travertine, praising its “natural beauty and ability to tie in with many different palettes.” Recognised for its honeycomb texture and blend of blue, grey and white tones, the stone is mainly quarried in Italy and the Middle East.
09. Lumina Daphine Terra Led
The Daphine Terra LED, designed by Milanese lighting designer Tommaso Cimini for Lumina, features a two-segment arm and freely adjustable head, making it perfect as a reading lamp. “I adore it for its refined nature and classic design,” James-Herrick says, adding that it is “both functional and beautiful”.

10. Aarke Kettle
Swedish design company Aarke’s signature kettle combines a compact footprint with a “refined aesthetic”, James-Herrick says. Made from stainless steel with an optional matte black finish, it includes a heat-safe handle and dry boil protection.
11. Lacanche Classic Oven Range
James-Herrick admires the classic French Lacanche oven range, singling out the stainless steel model as “a dream investment statement appliance”. Equipped with two ovens — one gas, one electric — it offers three cooking modes: static, grill and convection.
12. Sub-Zero Designer Series Refrigerator
The American-owned Sub-Zero Designer Series earns James-Herrick’s praise for its “superior cooling qualities”. Its seamless, flush design allows it to be built into joinery, complete with an internal water dispenser and ice-maker.
