Continuing our Definitive Design Products series, we asked architect and director Andrew Piva of B.E Architecture to share his 12 top picks for 2025, including furniture, lighting, fixtures, materials and kitchen appliances.
Our ‘Definitive Design Products’ series was first featured inside est magazine issue 56: ‘Living Connection’.
01. Minotti Kendall Armchair
“It screams comfort and refinement,” Piva says of the Kendall armchair by Dutch–German design duo GamFratesi for Minotti. With tailored upholstery and sleek metal accents, “in tan or biscuit leather, it recalls the padded seat of a vintage Italian sports car.”
02. Flos Taccia
Designed by Italian design brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos, the Taccia table lamp “is an icon for a reason,” Piva says. Available in matte black, anodised bronze or silver with an aluminium reflector, “the large version works as well on a sideboard as it does as a floor lamp in a corner.”
03. BRDR Krüger ARV Chair
The BRDR Krüger ARV chair, designed by Studio David Thulstrup, pairs an oak frame with a hand-woven paper-cord seat. “They’ve nailed this as a modern classic,” Piva says. “It’s nostalgic in its materiality and detailing, with a slight contemporary edge.”

04. Eco Outdoor Scala Travertine
Australian Eco Outdoor’s Scala travertine, quarried in Italy, features layered cream tones in large-format wall tiles, crazy paving and batons. “It suits everything from European cathedrals to modern homes,” Piva says. “‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!’”
05. Marset Bohemia Pendant
Designed by Spanish industrial designer Joan Gaspar, the Marset Bohemia pendant “is perfect over a dining table,” Piva says. “Its scale and olive or toffee tones define the space, while its simple profile doesn’t overpower the room.”
06. Inax Yohen Border
Available exclusively from Australia’s Artedomus, Inax tiles—made since 1924 — blend exceptional craftsmanship with Japanese sensibilities. “Their ranges celebrate a unique intensity of texture and depth of colour,” Piva says.

07. Brodware City Plus Pull-Out Kitchen Spout
For the kitchen, Piva favours the Australian-made Brodware City Plus Pull-Out spout. “It combines the drama of an oversized gooseneck with the practicality of a flexible nozzle,” he says. The spout is available in several chrome, brass and iron finishes.
08. Eveneer Raw Almond
As far as flooring goes, Melbourne-based Elton Group Eveneer Raw Almond is “a staple” for Piva and B.E Architecture. Sustainably grown, “its warm, rich tone is slightly desaturated, so it complements rather than dominates surrounding finishes,” Piva says.
09. Pittella Maralina Door Pull | MDP
For hardware, Piva’s pick is the family-owned Italian Pittella. “They’ve been long-time collaborators on most of our projects,” he says. “They’re perfectly weighted, with finishes that add instant permanence to a home.”

10. Alessi 9090 Espresso Coffee Maker
On small appliances, Piva’s pick is easy: the Alessi 9090 Espresso Maker by German industrial designer Richard Sapper. “My wife gave me one for my first Father’s Day, and it gets used every day, so I have a soft spot for it.”
11. La Cornue Grand Palais 180
Handcrafted by the La Cornue master craftsman in Paris, the Grand Palais 180 is “an unashamedly coveted statement piece,” Piva says. With its dual-function, “being able to have both gas and electric oven options is a bonus.”
12. Gaggenau Vario Fridge-Freezer Combination 400 Series
The Gaggenau Vario Fridge-Freezer 400 Series features the brand’s new Vario cooling and invisible rail system. “There’s no plastic—just black stainless steel, glass and high-tech details,” Piva says. “They’re a delight to open.”
