Matyas Architects returns to Harold Street in Middle Park, a family home the studio first designed 25 years ago. Revisiting their original work, the architects have redefined the residence with a sculptural rear extension that explores memory, light and reinvention. Enveloped in Brickworks’ Terracotta SK1N shingles, the angular addition wraps walls and roof in a continuous, earthy red skin that nods to the original brickwork while establishing a bold new presence behind the Federation-era frontage.
In collaboration with Moss Interiors, the project layers a contemporary interior scheme that complements the sculptural qualities of the architecture. Together, the studios have crafted a family home that celebrates its heritage while embracing modernity — a dialogue between old and new, where terracotta becomes the unifying thread.
