Metal craftsmanship, an enduring cornerstone of design, spans everything from robust kitchen countertops to intricately crafted objet d’art. In this feature, we shift our focus to small-scale decorative vessels in varying metallic finishes, which can easily function as the ‘something shiny’ within a space.

01. Rick Owens Golden Bronze Coupe
American fashion designer Rick Owens is known for his edgy designs that often incorporate unconventional materials and shapes. Part of his collection of furniture and homewares, this golden-bronze coupe features a slightly irregular surface and organic form.
02. Kelly Wearstler Heath Medium Bowl
American designer Kelly Wearstler’s approach is underscored by her rigorous exploration of materials and textures, such as this decorative bowl handcrafted out of patinated bronze.

Designed by Belgian artist Ann Van Hoey for When Object Work, this meticulously hand-crafted bronze bowl features an elegant and sculptural form.
04. Ferro Forma Flow Form Vessel 18
Stainless steel manifests in these flowing rhythmic-shaped vessels hand-crafted by Australian metalsmiths Alison Jackson and Dan Lorrimer, who together make up Ferro Forma. The vessels are also available in brass and copper.
05. Chris Wolston Mave Vase
American artist Chris Wolston’s ‘Mave’ vase is made from sand-casted aluminium, attributing to it a delicate and lustrous form.
06. Georg Jensen Large Nendo Vase
Japanese architect and designer Oki Sato handcrafted a set of sleek sterling silver vases for Danish silverware company Georg Jensen, referencing the gentle curved lines found in nature.
07. Michaël Verheyden BUKEDO Bowl
In his quest to find and work with natural materials that age beautifully, Belgian designer Michaël Verheyden created the ‘BUKEDO’ bowl out of contrasting finishes of cast bronze.
08. Henry Wilson Thoronet Dish
With its distinctive archways, the Thoronet Abbey in the south of France inspired this decorative dish by Australian designer Henry Wilson. Henry’s interest in the “awkward beauty” that comes from making things by hand materialises in the dish’s solid gunmetal bronze finish.
09. Tom Dixon Bash Vessel
UK designer Tom Dixon’s penchant for shiny materials is revealed in the ‘Bash’ vessel, formed from a single brass sheet and hammered into shape by hand, giving the vessel its name.
