WET and DRY are primarily focused on creating an oasis of peace.
This pared back aesthetic leaves us with a compelling sense of the raw and overwhelming beauty of the Australian landscape.
Chris Warnes used a traditional Hasselblad camera to capture delicacy and calm in these two bodies of work – WET and DRY. The simplicity of his technical approach gives his artwork a softness and grain that can only be achieved by shooting this way.
Inspired by mood, atmosphere and the timeless moments that translate emotion and soul, Chris chooses not to digitally work his images, allowing them to simply reflect moments in time captured on traditional film.
After hours of standing in rain, walking through blizzards and being soaked by storm surges, this series of work encapsulates the tone, soul and space of the Australian ocean and landscape.
Born in England, Chris studied Design and Photography at the University of Newcastle, and worked as an Art Director in Editorial and Advertising for over a decade. His passion for being behind the lens is now his full time career; working as a commercial photographer in Sydney, Australia.
